I want to get a new laptop. I've only used desktops before this mostly. What's the best one to get in terms of specs, good speed, memory size, one that you can actually use a mouse with, that I can use CD and DVD roms to save files onto, play music or movies on and what would be a good compatible printer for it?

DrM would be the one to ask on this one.

Unfortunately he is on the road currently, and has little to no board and internet access.

In other news, about 3 weeks back my old Sony desktop died for good, after a weeks worth of trouble.

I did pick up a HP Pavilion 20 (all-in-one). It isn't exactly what I was looking for, but I'm happy with it thusfar.

Note to others, this has Windows 8, which by all reviews and accounts sucks.
Although I am slowly getting used to it, I can't say I much like it either.

(no start button, most all controls are accessed by simply moving your mouse to corners of your screen, and it doesn't even go straight to desktop when you turn it on!!) :x

Yeah Windows 8 took me a long time to get used to. Only got it because I had to when Vista kept crapping out on me.

My worry with Windows 8 will be that it is discarded rather quickly, just as Vista was.

Who would have known the easiest way to turn off your computer would be paralleled with control alt delete. :|

I don't suppose its terrible, just very awkward and a bit clumsy when compared to ALL other previous Windows versions.

I found some sites where one can filter or rank by type, screen size, rating. For example,

http://www.techspot.com/guides/buying-laptop/

http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/
