The same guys that are currently doing the "Outer Limits a day" blog previously did a "Thriller" a day blog that a lot of you here may really be interested in. I never seen any of "Thriller" but I am going to as soon as I can (maybe I'll watch it in DrM's revue section here or maybe I'll Netflix it).

Here's a link to the classy blog:

I sent DrM an email concerning this blog, right before Christmas I believe.
I stumbled upon it somehow, looking at Outer Limits shots and pictures of certain actors, and I knew they would start an OL blog "after the 1st", I believe I read.

Anyway, if you notice, there seems to be a huge following there, and I kicked the idea to DrM of inviting some of those people to this board. (that is more of a blog, not so much a message board, so this might be a nice board for many of them to interact on)

Regardless, I was going to post concerning it, for our members opinions, but life has accidentally got in the way recently. Although we are a public board in essence, much of what we have to offer here is in fact "private" and members only. So I was looking for some feedback, before we just pulled the trigger and invited a new herd here.

ON THAT NOTE - In the last 3 weeks, I have received a tremendous influx of automated emails from this board, alerting me to activate new accounts. ( As founders, DrMoreau felt that I should have the ability to activate new accounts as well, and I believe Phineas has this ability also, but I am not 100% on that)
Many of you may or may not remember, but you can't just sign up here, and post away in our midst like a madman, you must be "approved/activated" first.
I very rarely check that email anymore, so this came as a surprise just 2-3 days ago, to see a mass of these emails in my inbox. You may note that DrM has activated a few of them, and he has a few more thorough "qualifications/checks" than I do, before greenlighting new members.

I am of the opinion (because I got a rather large amount of these emails, in a 1 day span, then another "batch" in a short time span as well) that somehow we have gotten noticed by a new type of bot or spam. etc. etc.
Hopefully we have or will soon approve a few more actual members. One has already posted, but hasn't seemed to have returned after his initial posting with a link to another site.

Regardless, I need to ring DrMoreau again anyway, as its been some time since we have spoke. (no I haven't lost your number, even though it might appear that way) :ROTF:

Just figured I would give you guys an update.........

Err, I got a bit long winded, but it is a HUGE blog that whit linked to, and the only reason I haven't looked at it a bit more, is I haven't viewed but 1-2 Thriller episodes as of yet.

The people on the TOL-a-day blog are guys that have been very involved in writing about the history of TOL series and other areas of TV over the years. Gary Gerani, who does commentary on the new TZ Blu-Rays and David J. Schow, author of the TOL companion and writer of a few new TOL stories are VERY actively posting in the comments section of the blog.

I guess how "private" the board remains is up to its founders as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe I didn't quite explain it as I should.
We are a public board... but most of our "viewing content" threads, (and a few other threads) are members only here.
DrM figured early on, that certain things should be kept to "members only" here, and at the very beginning of that movement, much of it was things and discussion concerning "The Old Joint".
As time has moved on, he started making alot of the view and review threads, and movie threads members only. Although I didn't think alot about it either way in the early stages, this move of him by making some things members only has probably worked out better than even he intended.
He is fond of saying "membership has its priviledges" and I agree with that 100%.
What this has essentially done in my opinion, (which I do give free of charge :) ) , is give the registered members access to things that the general public lurker can't view. In fact, they don't even know some of it is there AT ALL! Now, I believe I have mentioned this before, but try this little board experiment...... open another browser tab, and come to the site and log out, then go back to the main page and look at the board, and compare the two views. You can also see the same thing by just logging out and coming back. You will notice that alot of the main board appears "missing", and its more of a bare bones approach. You should really notice this right away, if you have customized the board color scheme too, as you will immediately see the default colors instead of your preferred choice, if you have in fact changed it.
Anyhow, I also believe that by hiding some of this content, we keep away some of the internet garbage. (people that somehow feel the need to bitch about a show being offered here, and it probably cuts down on some needless spam accounts) DrM is more knowledgeable than I about these matters, but it makes sense to me.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for wanting more members, and several others have said the same thing to me at differing times here. But I am also of the school of thinking like you once said "quality over quantity". Or even "slow and steady wins the race".
There isn't much need in us signing up 40 members, and trimming 39 of them away in the next 2 or 3 months.

My thoughts on the other blog, well I initially saw it as a source of people that might "need a home", and this looked like a welcome fit.

Spam bots, spammers, etc. Since Thanksgiving, we have had over 100 spam applicants - thank god for the spam mod that sorts through them and denies them outright. Out of those 100+, only 5 have not been filtered out and activated as newly registered members.

Phineas preferred the questionnaire method - to which I'm not opposed - it's just that I don't have the time available to me, but that's a long and tedious story in itself. Since PJ got married - it doesn't appear that he has the time on his hands either. Hence, the spam mod.

If you are on the spammers database, (IP, Email, name, etc,) you're automatically denoted as such and are simply denied. Now, if you sign up with a name like FreeViagraNow, AssAngelchat, freepornpasswords - I don't really need to run a spam check, do I?

I am not opposed to new members - I don't think many, if any, here are. I am opposed to spam and try my best to make sure it stays off - or promotion limited if it is a relevant site - of the boards.

Now to bring us full circle and back on topic:

TZDZ Fan hipped me to this site a few weeks back, but alas have had minimal times on my hands to review and truly appreciate the sight. These guys are already sorely missed from our site. They obviously have the same taste in shows and their opinions are pretty much on the money.
