I've enjoyed some episodes of Tales From the Darkside over the years and I see that Paramount is finally releasing Season 1 to DVD.

Here's a link to the news:

Sweeet! TftD was a fun - albeit - budget syndication series. Some of the best writing and creative imaginations well sprung from this show. A very young Christian Slater, Seth Green, and even "pre Lisa Simpson" Yardley Smith. Old favorites like Fritz Weaver, Joe E. Tata, Jean Marsh, William Macy, etc, etc. A must have on my list.

I have the bootleg set of this series--this show seamed a hell of a lot scarier and cooler back when it originally aired. When I got the new set on DVD, I was pretty disappointed with the overall quality of the show's effects and storylines...but, being the sucker completest that I am, I will plunk down my hard-earned cash for the "official" released of this series. Anything I can do to support the horror genre I consider a badge of honor worth wearing.

Nice jacket cover. I love the critters hiding in the trees.

I see "Tales From the Darkside" Season 2 is in stores for those of you that are fans of the show. I'm still not sure if I want to buy these sets. I think they may just be Netflix rental for me.

Yeah, this has been in my Amazon.com cart for a few weeks now, I just haven't pulled the trigger. Maybe next week. On a side note, I did pick up Friday the 13th: The Series, the final season last week but haven't had the time to sit and watch any of the episodes. It's almost bittersweet for me because I felt the series really started to circle the drain when John D. Lemay was written out and that tool Johnny took his place.

Finally getting a chance to check out the first season this week...I cant wait. I have only watched TFTD once in my life and that was when I was 10 and I had rented a bunch of VHS tapes from some video store that went out of business years ago. I dont remember what they were about now but I sure do remember that I enjoyed them...lol....if that makes sense.

Any news on season 3?

Well I finally got to watch this after more then a year of this thread being around and I have to say....wtf? This show is bizarre and just weird. Some of the episodes are just confusing and make absolutely no sense, but yet have this atmosphere or quality to it that keeps you watching and enjoying it. I think even if this was pure fecal matter I would still get a kick out of it. Episodes with Kenan Wynn just do that for you I guess.

The George Romero commentary Special Feature of the season 1 was just about what I expected it to be. He didnt really comment on the episode itself but more about the series as a whole and what he thought about it. Ive heard plenty of Romero commentary from his other movies and well...you hear one you heard them all.

As I was saying about some shows just being bizarre and confusing....for instance...the second episode "The new man"

Quote:
The New Man Alan Coombs, a bad-tempered recovering alcoholic, meets a young man named Jerry who claims to be his son. Coombs insists that he's never seen or met Jerry before, but Jerry says otherwise.
Based on a short story by Barbara Owens and adapted by Mark Durand.

Now in the story .....

Spoiler

Similar to Twilight episodes where the guy wakes up and his life is different, except in this one Alan Coombs has a kid hes never heard of or thought existed basically claiming to be his son and messing with his I suppose good life. But in the end the story basically starts again with this mystery son claiming to be another mans kid.
It just didnt make any sense to me so if anybody who seen it could give me an idea of what in the shite happened.

I got to say I do love the intro. It is eerie and creepy....even though its just trees. f@%king trees, yet it has this reality to it that makes it sinister and the beat is pretty cool. Its so simple yet done so well.....regular old trees that everybody usually sees every day...along with the George Romero lines about the "darkside" ....the intro is just really well done Imo.

Seriously bro -- I completely agree with your viewpoint. I loved the show as a kid, mainly because it scared the shite out of me, especially when watching late at night in the dark. When I watched a few again on SyFy, I just didn't care much for them. The intro was the best and scariest part for me! The ones I saw recently seemed kind of hokey and outdated. TFTC succeeds at a higher level than TFTD. Having said that, I would probably continue to check out some episodes if they happen to be on and I flip the channel to them, just to see if there are any redeeming episodes. If you happen to come across any you recommend, post them in this thread so I can look out for them.

That's the one I grabbed. It's basically the 4 individual season boxes in one pack.

I picked up the 4 season DVD set from amazon but havent watched it yet. Be careful though... many of the reviews warned of damaged sets and its true... one of them had a broken case when it arrived. This is after I read all the discretions. Bastards. But the discs looked fine. Buyer beware. The show is still cool.

Not only damaged discs, but some of the original music has been replaced, which is ticking off a lot of fans of this series.

Thats right. I remember somebody mentioning that here years ago! I dont know what to think of that... Im a sucker for 80s music and themes...so what I thought was cool 80s Darkside music in the episodes isnt even close.

Your best bet then would be to record it next time it plays on Chiller TV or get a DVD set from a collector who has it recorded off of there. I'll probably end up doing the latter. Speaking of which, I read a report of a possible Wonder Years DVD release where the people in charge of it are making every effort they can to get all the original music. Man, that would be AWESOME. There's also a rumored Adam West Batman series release by the summer. I hope that means Green Hornet is not too far behind as I LOVED watching Green Hornet reruns about 10 years ago and watched them again on DVD recently. I would love to get an officially released set of this show with the original music, maybe with interviews of any of the main actors still alive, producers, directors, writers, maybe some commentary.
