New episode tonight was awesome! Hope the quality stays up. They posted some webisodes, saw them a week or two ago, but haven't seen them linked here. Check them out, not required for the new season, but fun anyway.

I am wondering what the others here are thinking of the new season of TWD....

I have watched all of the new episodes, and after the last one all I can say is "meh".
Don't get me wrong, its still one of the damn few things I watch on TV now, and I will still watch the series all the way through.
But I don't know that it has that sizzle :sparkle: that season one had.
I really liked the season opener and I have enjoyed the rest, but I think its not quite currently at that level some of the earlier episodes were.
Not sure, maybe theres some urgency missing. Hell I don't know, I can't quite put my finger on it.

Maybe I am just a little turned off by the ending of the most recent episode, which I won't give away here. (it has to do with the "item" Glenn picks up at the ransacked store, that he was told to be very "discreet" with)
Not sure I am interested in that little arc, but oh well, its not enough to turn me off really.

Maybe I will have more of an opinion after the next episode.

I had this new sub-plot. Screw that. Its so cliche. I knew it was going to be a

, but why the f@%k was Glenn acting so brain dead and shite with the "Where would I find it" section. Its a f@%king

Spoiler

pregancy test
! Find it you dumb ass.
I think the urgency has gone out because they are in a safe place for the time being.. I like the odd little twist and turns so far, I am def hooked again. The show seems to have its ups and downs but maintains its spot as one of the best. I would prefer more episodes though. I'm hating the whole 6 episodes a year shite.

I know they tend to do this for the dollar aspects.
It makes sense actually.
They film fewer episodes, and wait a bit till they air them and feel out the viewer reaction and fanbase, and it gives them an idea of whether they should continue or not.

All it really does is shortchange the viewer though, and its complete bullshit.
I think they may have been a bit more tentative this go around. Seeing as they had new writers and creative forces behind it, it would have been easier and cheaper to pull the plug completely if it didn't do well in the first 2-3 episodes. (note this also saved them the cost of a real full length season, not these 6 episode bursts cleverly disguised as an entire new season)

Well - Season 2 is scheduled for 13 episodes rather than the initial 6 from season 1 - so, good news there.

Just so you know, DrM has put the discussion threads right here on the board. (I am sure you knew that about last season already)

So, what did everyone think of the midseason opener?
I enjoyed it. But there was one thing that made me scratch my head.

Spoiler

Why did Rick's wife go after him? As much as she complains about him leaving their son, she leaves him ALL alone and they hadn't been gone that long to warrant her being scared they wouldn't return. It just stinks of the writers forcing more drama, where it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Regarding your spoiler question, I didn't get that at all either. My call right now is weak, weak writing; the writers just couldn't figure out any other way to create that additional drama or that situation. The action of this character seems completely pointless. I've noted that this question was raised on other places like IMDb and no one there could figure it out either.

Overall the episode was pretty good, with the already famous bar scene towards the end a real standout.

I haven't read the comics of this series, but from everyone I've talked to that has, Rick is becoming closer to how he is in the comics. I really didn't see it as much of a change, while he's level headed I think the end was something I could expect out of him. He's good, but he's not a fool.

Yeah, I'd personally like to see everyone post in the episode specific threads too, but thats just my opinion.

I bumped this last week here to remind everyone that its coming back on for a few weeks.

It's quite good, especially given the fact that they slow things down and add more drama.

Are they following the same story from the comics? I've been reading some plot elements are slightly different to kind of surprise people that have already read the comic issues. Like certain characters dying on the show that didn't die in the comic and vice versa or some other plot elements slighly altered. Is this done a lot on the show? Is there a site somewhere that mentions these differences?

anybody watch "the talking dead" with chris hardwick? it's a chat show that amc airs after the episode premieres. it is really good, because chris hardwick is such a big fan of the show. in one episode someone - i think greg nicotero- gives chris daryl's trophy zombie ear necklace. he totally freaked out.
he has guests like robert kirkman, greg nicotero, various walking dead actors and other celebrity fans of the show. they do some behind the scenes stuff too.

I keep reading that this show has potential, but is not yet living up to it. Fans seems more hopeful for Season 3 though. David Morrisey I read will play some kind of villain. He's also in the Thorne series, great actor, so should be a good role.

Supposedly, there is supposed to be a lot of action starting from the beginning. The lack of which at the start of the season, was one of the complaints.

I think its a great show. One of the better ones on tv today, but the type of tv we like, simply put we just don't have much choices right now.
Sci-fi (if you want to slip this show into that genre, which I kind of do), has awfully slim pickings right now.

Knowing you and your tastes Anthony, I figure you are about 90% going to be a fan.
Its a bit different than many shows, but you seem to like a wide variety, with many alongside the people on the board here.

For you to not give this a chance and try it, its kind of silly. I think once you do, you will be glad you did.

For what its worth, a girl at a local poker game Friday night said she was told about it, and her and a friend sat through the whole marathon they had recently.
Nedless to say she is hooked.
And you sir, have them right here on the board to give it a whirl if you like. Go here ~~~~~~ > viewforum.php?f=154

I think it really hit its stride about ep 3-4.

I've seen some of it, liked what I saw. But I keep reading online in reviews that the show has the potential to be even better. If I find one, I'll post the link here later. I will watch the rest of the series if they do a proper ending and it isn't a letdown. For me, I want to see survivors in the end, not the typical "everybody dies and they're all doomed" ending we get in so many zombie movies. I hate that. They make us sympathize with certain characters and then kill them all. If this turns out like that too, then I don't want to see it. I need to see some sort of cure or full zombie destruction and escape to start a new society ending. So when this ends, I'll ask about it here and maybe check elsewhere online and if I like what I read, then I'll be "all in", as you would say in poker.

Mnay of the shows I enjoy, often get terrible online reviews. So I don't really bother researching most shows really.
That aside, some get great reviews like BSG.

But since my viewing is not really a mainstream, popular view, I tend to just "watch what sounds good" and keep watching whats good in my opinion.

Occaisionally I start one and after a few eps just drop it completely.

Comes with the territory I suppose.
Maybe thats why I don't get into many shows though.

The thing about this series is the zombie apocalypse is really kind of a back drop. You're real villains and stories in this series are not the zombies but people. Its the people doing things that compromise themselves in the face of this apocalypse and how our main cast deals with being in it and trying to retain their morals while surviving.

Sounds good guys. I'm just being careful though. TV has been kind of a femme fatale for me lately or rather, a harsh mistress. I've been burned too many times before by a show I like, so I tend to watch online sometimes, but mostly take a "wait and see" approach these days. At least cable seems to give their shows more of a chance to survive and get proper endings, although Tower Prep, kind of a teen The Prisoner meets X-Men type of show, was cancelled a little early recently. At least on cable, those cancellations seem to be fewer and further between.

I don't think this has been posted on the board, or if it has, some of you may not have seen it.

This isn't the "cast looks ahead" piece, but instead a full 4 minute preview of season 3.

The "rest" of Season 3 starts on February 10th.

There are a variety of clips around, but here is one off youtube.

Stop with this half season bullshit already.
I know its trending more towards that on all networks, but its irritating.

"AMC Responds To The Mazzara Controversy On The Walking Dead"

http://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/scifi/ ... -dead.html

"The Walking Dead has seen some highs and lows over the years, not only on the screen but also behind the scenes. That history of bad luck continued recently as the series parted ways with its second showrunner, Glen Mazzara. This will be the third Walking Dead showrunner in as many seasons, and many are beginning to wonder just what the hell is going on at AMC. But the cable network defends its decision to replace Mazzara with long-time series writer and producer Scott Gimple."

"AMC Responds To The Mazzara Controversy On The Walking Dead"

"The Walking Dead has seen some highs and lows over the years, not only on the screen but also behind the scenes. That history of bad luck continued recently as the series parted ways with its second showrunner, Glen Mazzara. This will be the third Walking Dead showrunner in as many seasons, and many are beginning to wonder just what the hell is going on at AMC. But the cable network defends its decision to replace Mazzara with long-time series writer and producer Scott Gimple."

Thanks for the quote anton.
I noticed (in headlines) a few days back that there was yet another problem with WD, but I didn't even read about it.
I thought after losing the first showrunner, it wasn't that big of a deal, and I am assuming this will be a similar trivial loss.
I do think Season 1 had a bit of a "sizzle" that later seasons didn't have at times, but I can't say for sure that the showrunner juggling was any part of that. (my opinion of many decent shows tends to drop a little as the seasons go on, so I'm not really surprised at this)

Later reports from Mazzara himself basically state that he "didn't have the control he thought he had on the show", which is why he ultimately left.

I do think this is a good show , but not a great show, and I doubt this new showrunner juggling is going to affect it much in my eyes. (I will most likely enjoy it no matter what)
I think part of the reason it appeals to me, is its so much different from the rest of whats on tv today.

Ok I'm all caught up (with help from FiOS On Demand, Netflix and PtE!). Looking forward to the second half to begin next Sunday night!

I've had so many people ask me if I was watching this show, especially with my interest in the horror genre. So it was quite the shock when I responded "No"; it ultimately stems from lack of time or opportunity, particularly since my wife (who has an interest in a lot of the shows I like) refuses to watch anything with aliens or zombies. Well since she has been a busy beaver the past couple weekends, opportunity knocked and I grabbed it to watch the show. Glad I did because it is a very good and entertaining show. I think I responded somewhere that it reminds me of a zombie-infested version of Lost.

Hope this inconsistency with showrunners doesn't screw up the show in any way.

Ive decided to stop watching WALKING DEAD on TV, and wait for the entire series to hit DVD/Blu. Ive missed far to many episodes to this point and all behind the scenes related BS aside related to this show...I just dont want to sit through the commercials or marathon/countdown stuff anymore.

Not sure where you left off, but AMC is airing a bunch of them all day leading up to the new season.

Yeppers, I caught up on season 2 yesterday and am watching season 3 now.

Starting next week, they are redoing the first season in Black & White.

For what purpose? To give it a Night of the Living dead feel to it?

The same thing was done with Frank Darabont's The Mist (2007) when it was released on DVD; there was a 2nd version in b&w. Is it coincidence that Darabont also was responsible for the inception of The Walking Dead series?

I read an explanation a couple of years back but don't recall the details. It's all about evoking a style of sf/horror films from long ago, like from the sixties. So, yeah, something like the original Night of the Living Dead is a good example.

According to Darabont - he wanted to make the Mist in Black and White to begin with but the studio was hesitant as B&W is out of fashion. Hence, it was released as a bonus DVD in the set. I actually enjoy the desaturated B&W version better.

How so DrM, was it brighter or illuminated better, etc.?
Im guessing you in favor of the B&W version because of your passion for films from that era , but do you think if the Mist was released that way as it was originally intended it would have done so well in the theatres or flopped.
Im just curious why the director Frank wanted to do it, sort of a nod or throwback to the Monster Movies from the 50s and 60s or something?

It plays much darker and moodier than the color version. With B&W you can convey far more emotion than you can with color. The mist was far more foreboding and scary in b&w as the shadows and contrasts are all heightened. It would have certainly harkened back to the more 50s sci-fi, true. There is just certain things you can do in B&W that you can't get away with in color.

As for its theatrical release, hard to say how it would have done better or worse. The younger generation is certainly jaded to almost anything in b&w - yet, the Artist and Schindler's List contrast that opinion.

Well, another "season" is over for WD.

I can't say I was too enthralled with the finale really.
I was expecting a bit more.

Spoiler

All it basically did was solidify how evil the Governor is, and to top it off, he wasn't even killed. To know they have had him dead to rights so many times and never killed him off is getting a bit ridiculous.
Also, highlighting Carl and his getting to be a bit more of a "rough" character, is starting to wear a bit thin also.

One thing that really pisses me off, is it looks to be one of the "semi finish/is it over? or is it NOT over?" that is all too popular with shows nowadays.
I know they tend to go that route to appease viewers if the series isn't renewed for a new season.
But all these bullshit semi-endings are really starting to get old.

I suppose I will have a bit more to say in the coming days as I think a bit more about it.
Hell, I might even rewatch it again.
