Now my new favorite show. I have been so hooked on it the past few weeks I have gone back to Blockbuster as soon as I finish a season. Currently I am in the 4th season. What an amazing show. It seems to capture your attention and once it hooks you in you can't really stop watching until its all over. I was always a fan of Goodfellas, Godfather etc and you can spot alot of actors from those movies in the show. The Sopranos won award after award and I can see why. I have always been curious why other people consider it a brilliant show ....any thoughts?

Spoiler free please....

Yeah, it's a great show. I caught it when I was in college during the reruns of season 3, and that season alone hooked me. I went back and watched the first couple seasons then got back on track during regular airings. My opinion: this wasn't just another mobster show. It revolved around a family man with many indiscretions/vices suffering from an anxiety disorder -- just so happens he's in the mob and high up in 'the family'. Glad you're enjoying it SVB!

I only watched the 1st few seasons. It was finely written but became rather well-tapped dry in the later seasons. Just my opinion.

As Lazy stated, this wasn't just another mobster show. This guy - Tony Soprano - had some serious deep seeded issues. That was fun to watch as he tried to hold everything, wife, kids, work, mother, etc, together. Later on, it became more of a soap opera - much like WEEDS has now become - and didn't have the same cerebral attraction to me. But, every Hotel/Motel I stayed in carried HBO, so it was really easy for me to follow.

I would agree with that -- the show degenerated as it went on. Seasons 1-3 were the best, season 4 wasn't as bad as many thought it to be, but definitely lost some edge as compared to the first 3 seasons. The final couple seasons had highs and lows -- some episodes where you questioned, "What was the point of this episode?", but overall a great series.

Just watch the series finale and it actually has a scene from Twilight Zone's "The Bard" It was the scene when Moomer is trying to get the pilot in the very beginning. It was actually the second reference to the Twilight Zone in the Sopranos last season. Thought that was really cool.

I have viewed every single episode of the series. What a great show. While it did decline and also while many people knocked the finale and final scene, I read up on it more and its truly a great piece of work. The creator David Chase certainly put a shitload of time into that final scene and hints at what really happens. You can find it on youtube, what an ending. [spoil]It leaves it open to whatever you want it to be....[/spoil]

Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law did a great Sopranos parody in their first season called The Dabba Don. Very funny show, it makes fun of all the old Hanna Barbera cartoons. This one has Fred and Barney as mob bosses where Harvey had to defend Fred. They even do a Flintstones style opening referencing the Sopranos opening.
