Ponder this -- a major studio is planning to revitalize certain non-iconic episodes of the Zone with a fresh take on the cast, story or other elements. Now suppose they came to you and asked you to choose a less than stellar episode and what would you do to make it better or relatable to todays audience. As we all have some episode or another that falls short of true Zone-worthy material for reason or reasons unknown, here is a chance to right what you feel is wrong.

In this installment, we will ask the question: Who would you recast?
No story or script corrections, just the starring characters.

    Example:

    What's in the Box

    Joe Britt = Mandy Patinkin

    Phyllis Britt = Carrie Fisher

    TV Repairman = Wayne Knight

Good idea for a thread.

I know somewhere, sometime we had some similar thoughts on this exact subject, but it may have been years ago.

I'll have to come up with a few examples soon and then post them here.

(on a similar thought train, actors back then who would have fit nicely in the series, but were never in any episodes)

Great thread idea, lesser episode is definitely subjective, could we also do under rated episodes ?

One under rated episode I would be interested in being adapted is The 4 of Us are Dying.

Kevin Spacey could play all 4 parts single handily, given the proper make up, he is a master of voices
and a fine actor.

4' o clock is one of my lesser favorite episodes. I would change it to 12 Oh clock, its more extreme sounding, have Nicholas Cage play the lead, he's an extreme actor who would add flare to this episode.

In the case of CAESAR AND ME, you could imagine your least favorite current child actress in the Morgan Brittany role, since that character is such a "villainess."

And in NUMBER 12 LOOKS JUST LIKE YOU, you could imagine post-change Marilyn and her mother played by two trendy actresses who have a "flashy" kind of attractiveness. I don't even mean that as an insult, though a lot of people WOULD, so it would be a kind of "jab" at those actresses

But in each of those cases, I don't have actual candidates that I can think of just now.

Thanks Guys,

TZDZ: Yes we did have a similar thread regarding personalities of the 50s and 60s who were not in Zones that would have brought a different something to the episode.

Mr Z: Less than Stellar or Under-rated, the interpretation is up to the poster. Kevin Spacey as a (1) man act on TFoUAD, brilliant!

TBFBL: I like where you are going with Caesar and Me and Number 12. Look forward to your thoughts on who or whom these players may be.

I can't help imagining the actress Morgan Smith Woodward (the "Wendy's" actress) as post-change Marilyn and her best friend. She's not only incredibly hot, but she shows the right kind of "bubbly" personality that the two parts call for.
(Of course, the idea that there could be a DOWNSIDE to it - which is what the story is all about - is what I would have a problem with.)

That's an interesting choice. MSG could work in that role.

I might go Laura Vandervoort, though she wouldn't be as "bubbly", she definitely has the looks to fit in the episode.

Caesar and Me: For Jonathan West, maybe Craig Ferguson (yeah, I know he's Scottish not Irish). Could also go younger with Colin Farrell.

I was thinking of Number 12 too for this, I like the choices so far for the lead, I'd love to see:

for the lead, they could always make her less appealing with botched make up, and bad wigs, then its a SCI FI Xtreme MAKE OVER!

Nice choices for A Nice Place to Visit.
Larry Blyden got on my nerves - no wonder Rocky V never made it up the criminal ladder. Pesci on the other hand, believable gangster for the role.

Kevin James is a wee bit too young for Frisby IMO. Now, here's a role for Bill Cosby or even flip genders and go Rosanne Barr. :P

Great choices, Rosanne would be great, shes got the girth and the acting chops.

(With Kevin James, they could put him in some aged make-up or cgi, to make him look older. )

How about Emma Stone( for the men) and Chatum Tatum ( for the women) in Stopover in a Quiet Town

Thanks, Emma is easy on the eyes, for sure.

Ok, one of my favorite episodes, that is under rated in my opinion is : The Mind and Matter.

Richard Lewis could play Mr. Archibald Beechcroft, he is dark and cynical and witty.

Yet , for this episode I would change the script a tad, after he bores of being alone, he decides to live in a world filled with just supermodels like:

Image

( Now would he ever want to leave this world, hmmmm)

Agreed. Really like the F. Murray Abraham choice! But I think these two would be quite intriguing.

One for the Angels ( ok, its actually not a lower episode imho, but I could see it changed up a bit)

Lew Bookman could be played by Tommy Lee Jones, an older actor who I am sure could pitch a convincing sale, and is a fast talker.

Death could be played by George Clooney. He has a similar charm as Murray Hamilton, at least as he portrayed this role in this episode.

The Fever

I see James Caan in the lead as Franklin( I think it would be an ironic zonish twist, due to fact he played head of a casino in the tv show Las Vegas)

Image

I see him married to a much younger woman , namely Natalie Portman. She would play well off Caan.

This thread makes me think of "gimmicky" casting. So (even though I've never really been part of the CHEERS cult following), I thought of this cast for MR. DINGLE THE STRONG:

John Ratzenberger as Mr. Dingle, George Wendt as the Don Rickles character, Ted Danson as the bartender.

I've already mentioned commercial actresses, so it just occurred to me that Stephanie Courtney (of the Progressive ads) could do well in a comical or semi-comical episode.
I know it's one of the least-liked episodes, but maybe the Carol Burnett role in CAVENDER IS COMING.
(Of course, since the original had a famous commercial actor - Jesse White - as the angel, you'd want to find one to play that part too.)

Cavender is Coming always links my brain to Mr. Bevis, for good reason hahaha :ROTF:

Anyhoo, if Mr. Bevis was made as a movie, I think Jim Carrey would be great. I also Like Adam Sandler.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elegy ( ok this is a more popular one amongst us I believe) would be interesting to be played by Patrick Stewart, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.
Mr. Wickwire could be played by John De Lancie ( with some aged make up to make him appear older).

He could play ad exec Martin Sloan or Gart Williams in WD or ASAW.

A Piano In the House--a really nasty epsiode
a bunch of people who make fun of someone's hidden feelings are not nice at all.
Frankly as the Older Twilight Zone got the less Imagination there was-for example-I think the last episode they broadcast was "An occurance at OWl Creek Bridge" which I think they just tacked on to fill a time slot.

Of course fictional and entertaiment as well-why let facts get in the way-for example see the mistakes on "The LASt Flight" at wikipedia {Wrong type airplane etc.etc} or example "Death's Head Revisted" to in the COLd War always having the US vs USSR -having the US win-"The Whole Truth" to remakes of previous epsiodes {"Long Live Walter Jamison" to "Queen of the Nile"} to vanity of the human Race {"Number 12 looks just like you" and "The trade-Ins}

Sometimes it could be just entertaining--"Once Upon a Time" :sparkle:

Really Conventional--The Sixteen-Millimeter Shrine take off on Sunset Boulevard :bell:

Not quite. AO@OCB was a French short subject made in 1962 that Rod acquired the American Rights for and incorporated into Season 5 for the budgetary reasons.
The last episode broadcast was, "The Bewitchin' Pool."

Hope it Helps,

noman, I am not a fan of Owl Creek, but if I could revision it, I'd give a plot, not just a chase, more twists and turns, much more dialogue, I would keep some of the music however.

The lead: Jean Reno
