We have all been posting and interacting at various boards for several years now.

Obviously, we have many of the same tastes in tv programming and movies.
What I want to know, is what are some of you guys "guilty pleasure" tv viewing choices?

Its easier for a few of you, as you are married. Undoubtedly, you "put up" with a few shows here and there, that you might not have otherwise been exposed to, except with your wife.
But are there any shows that you might have thought would be terrible , but after seeing it you began to watch it every week?

For me, its The Biggest Loser. It certainly isn't "engaging drama", but thats not why I watch it.
I have worked out on and off for many years, and I stay in pretty good shape. I figure I have done weight training for over 15 years now on and off.
Now I am beginning to incorporate boxing and kickboxing into my cardio workouts, in addition to the other forms of training I have done here and there.
But honestly, I like seeing people change their lives, and watching others train. Theres a ton to be learned by watching others. Also, you can get some good tips on eating (and training) from the trainers themselves on the show.
So for me, The Biggest Loser was a perfect fit, once I started catching it here and there.

I also think the Australia version which is on youtube, is even better than the American version.

Like I said, it certainly isn't "engaging drama", but I must admit it was awesome watching Bob go off on this lazy bitch this season. Notice he was watching her right from the onset of this clip, she was awful from day one on. (they all voted her out unanimously in the first 2-3 weeks  )
Check this out............

Anyone else here watch any programming that is against their normal preferences?

OK, so one afternoon I was flippin' the channels, which honestly I don't do too often as I know what I want to watch. Anyway, the
Oxygen channel had this marathon of this true crime reality show called Snapped. It is about women who snap and kill or almost kill their significant other. It is a nice little half hour show and very addictive. This is just a clip, but you may get the idea. They have two shows on in the early evening as a rule. Like today they had another marathon.....enjoy!

My guilty pleasure was DirtySexyMoney but it was canned. No new "guilty pleasures" for me at the moment.

Never seen this one.
What channel does it even air on?

This, sounds interesting. Any time there is even a small possibility for Andy Dick to get the shite kicked outta him, its worthy of taking a chance and checking out.

OK, I have latched on to more "guilty pleasure" TV.

In the past, seeing as I am a fan of "The Biggest Loser", I discovered "The Biggest Loser Australia" online.
Over the last couple of years, I have seen a few seasons of that too, and really enjoyed it.
(not in the same way I like classic tv and sci-fi, but thats another matter)

Anyway, a new season of TBL Aussie just ended, and thanks to the person that puts them online for the U.S. residents to see, she has also started putting another show up, while its in its down season.
"MasterChef Australia" is certainly (yet again) not my cup of tea, but I gave it a try.
One of the reasons I liked TBL aussie, is the Australians are generally a pleasant people, which is a refreshing change to the rough, bitter gamblers I deal with on a daily basis.
Its interesting to see a more "positive people".

MasterChef Australia has been a pleasant surprise.
It started off a bit slow, but as you got to know some of the contestants, and the field narrowed, it got quite a bit better.
Not to mention there are a few hottie aussie chicks for eye candy around too, if you are into that sort of thing. (with nice accents also, thats a + :D )

I doubt anyone here is into this sort of thing, but if you want a peek, here you go..........

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xd0vyh ... shortfilms

I couldn't get the premiere, but I think this was the beginning of episode 2, so its still early on in the competition.
It gets much, much better as the series goes along.

By the way, I wouldn't give you 2 cents for the US version of this show. :yack:

Man, you better believe it.

I am not a fan of the show really, but I have seen some of it over the years.

One thing is for certain, its damn popular somewhere.
It was one of the longest running shows on TV for some time.
I read some time ago how many years it had been on TV, but I have since forgotten.
I am sure it was over 10 years though, and that in itself is a feat in todays world.

I watched some episodes of "Cake Boss" because I thought it was funny to see TLC try to make us believe it was a reality show when its obviously scripted. The people on the show looked to be dysfunctional instead of train-wreck insane but I couldn't stay with it because reality shows make me ill.

Do the shows make you angry though? LOL.

I don't tend to go for most reality shows either.
But I suppose my desire to follow "The Biggest Loser"/TBL, comes from a couple of fronts.
1- I used to work out regularly. Because of injuries,(and now space issues in my residence- long story don't ask :) ) I haven't worked out in perhaps a year and a half.
2 - It is inspiring to see the people shed the weight and change their lives. You literally see people change physically and mentally right in front of your eyes on these shows. Its weird to see these people on week 1-2, look terrible, bloated, and actually near death, only to change completely in 6-8 weeks and beyond.
Often, many are on 6-10 types of medications and have "diseases". (such as Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol etc)
Each year, in approximately 6-8 weeks, many of the contestants, are able to drop those medications completely! Some people who have Diabetes, and all the symptoms, are able to completely reverse it, and their bodies show no signs of ever having the disease to start with. The same goes with high blood pressure, and a host of other problems.
These radical and "impossible" turnarounds, are often unbelieveable to the general overweight public.

Is it engaging and smart TV????? NOT.
I am big enough to admit, that these programs aren't everyones cup of tea, and especially the type of people we have here on our board.( we tend to go for more "intelligent" programming and sci-fi ;) )

Now as for the Masterchef that I have been watching a bit recently??
Thats a bit harder to explain. :ROTF:
I think the Aussie culture and people in general are interesting, maybe that helps.

Now, on this TV note.
I have some other thought on "Fringe" too, but I will try and post them in the appropriate thread. I am currently up to speed there also, but I haven't seen this last episode, where an apparent "showdown" between Walter and William Bell happens. (this interests me too, as I don't think the build up to this supposed showdown, has been handled well AT ALL.)

The funny thing about The Jerry Springer Show is that it started out using a lot of those "lump in the throat" episodes reuniting long-lost family members, that used to be so trendy on talk shows. That, and episodes with exotic dancers as guests. And then (evidently because of new producers or something) it dropped both things in favor of those yelling and fighting couples and families. Now, I can understand sentimental family reunions being considered passe (unfortunately), but exotic dancers????
All I know is, during what for me had been a really terrible week, his show "introduced" me to adult film actress Lulu Devine, and I'm grateful to him for that (in spite of some of the other stuff on his show).

One of my examples of (so-called) guilty pleasure TV can be seen on this site very frequently, not by clicking, but automatically, at the top of the page - I've always liked "Flo" of Progressive Insurance.

At this moment I'm watching some very faulty tapes of Gidget episodes, and wishing I had them on DVD. And as usual, without any irony.

You dont own a VHS/DVD player together? I am pretty sure they still sell them. Dont tell me you got rid of all your old VHS stuff. There is so much classic stuff out there.

I found a VHS copy of Natural Born Killers - The Directors Cut for 3 dollars a month ago. 2tape set. It was awesome...couldnt find that on DVD anywhere

I never get rid of VHS tapes, at least not BECAUSE they're VHS tapes. If they're in awful condition, maybe. And now that blank ones are harder to find (which took a lot longer to happen than most people thought), I sometimes record over them, but that of course is in order to have OTHER tapes.

I have caught several episodes of Tori & Dean Home Sweet Hollywood on Oxygen and they have these mini-marathons and can be very interesting and funny....http://video.oxygen.com/shows/tori_dean ... y/v1231959
Sober House is very good too!

Rupaul's Drag Race on LoGo has been very interesting and funny as well....
Starting July 19th is a new spin-off to tide one over until the fall called Rupaul's Drag U

Now, there is one case that I figured to be dead a while ago. (note- I didn't say from AIDS, but I assume that is what everyone here may be thinking lol)

I don't know if I could stomach extended periods or many hours of Rupaul, but seeing him/her pop up at various times on the TV over the years, was entertaining, so I believe you.
I might try and dig an episode up on the web. :D

Drag queens are a drag of a subject to me, and not because they offend me, but because of the overkill. At least, the Cher / Barbra Streisand / Diana Ross kind, which definitely gets overkill. Did someone pass a law that famous women could only be impersonated by men? The entertainment world badly needs another Marilyn Michaels.

Beginning this Sunday over in Australia....................

2012 Masterchef. This show is absolutely huge over there, and is pretty much an Australian icon now. ( I seriously doubt that any of you here on this board know how huge this is over there, its unreal)

There was a huge uproar about the launch and beginning of the new season being held back as long as it has.

Anyway, I know its not most of the members here cup of tea really. But one look at this promo and you should notice how well done it is , compared to the garbage version we have with Gordon Ramsay.
(the mere fact that their show attracts the most popular chefs in the world like Heston Blumenthal or Jamie Oliver should say something, as they won't touch our show with a 10 foot pole. I think that may have something to do with the presence of one Gordon Ramsay though.)
