In a few other threads on the board, several of you have stated how how much you liked the Looney Tunes cartoons.

I was going over youtube earlier, and I saw this one up for grabs.

You might want to watch this one while you can, as they normally are yanked down before too much time passes.

Here is Foghorn Leghorn and crew in "Banty Raids".

TZ DZ is a Foghorn Leghorn guy, huh? The first five volumes of the "Looney Tunes Golden Collection" DVDs have very few Foghorn cartoons on them. I think that's primarily because they are directed mainly by Robert McKimson, who is not one of the "big 3" Warner Bros. directors (Chuck Jones, Friz Freleng, Bob Clampett). Although there are quite a few McKimson Bugs cartoons on the sets. There has been quite a bit of grumbling from Foghorn fans about his relative absence from the LTGC DVD sets.

Funny stuff! "Baseball Bugs" is the first cartoon on the first disc on the first LTGC DVD set. The background animation really stands out in this one. It was directed by Friz Freleng. Bugs has some funny lines and deliveries and the play-by-play announcer of the baseball game is pretty funny, too. Especially early in the cartoon.

Keeping with my tradition of rating everything, I'd give this 9/10. It is an excellent cartoon!

By the way, Warner Bros. is releasing the "Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6" four-DVD set this coming Tuesday (10/21).

Being the cartoon geek that I am, I will be picking mine up when the stores' doors open.

My favourite WB cartoon ever involved Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny and was a take on Aladdin. Daffy abviously sees gold and greed takes over. Brilliant. Anyone know what it's called?

Whit could probably be of better assistance on this, but it might be....... "Hare-Abian Nights " or possibly "Ali Baba Bunny", these feature both, and have similar themes.

Yes, TZDZ is correct. It's called "Ali Baba Bunny". It was released in 1957 and was directed by Chuck Jones. You can find it on Disc One of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection Voulme 5.

"Bully For Bugs" was directed by Chuck Jones in 1953 and is a favorite of mine.

"Tortoise Wins By a Hare" is a Bob Clampett short and I give it a perfect 10. It's gloriously violent.

I should mention this...it should be fun!

Cartoon Network is running a 14-hour Looney Tunes marathon starting New Year's Day at 6am Eastern time.

I saw the cartoon lineup and it looks really strong. Lots of great cartoons!

Ok, I have a question for our resident Looney Tunes expert, whitsbrain.

There was a character I vaguely remember,"Blacque Jacque Shellacque", and in doing some research, I found a page on wiki.
That is here ~~~~~~~> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blacque_Jacque_Shellacque

Apparently, he was only in 2 shorts, so he was certainly one of their more obscure characters.
I looked around on youtube for the 2 he was in "Bonanza Bunny", and "Wet Hare".
As I figured, neither were there.

I only scarcely remember a scene, where Bugs is playing blackjack against another person, and I believe it was him.
In this scene, Bugs has one card, and stands, versus an obvious 20, in his opponents hand.
At this point, Bugs then takes the money (or gold I believe), as he promptly turns over the "21 of hearts".
Of course, this card has 21 little hearts on it.

Anyway, I believe you mentioned you have some of the collections, and I wonder if this short has been released, and if it was included on any of these sets.
OR more specifically, if you own these 2 shorts, is this the scene and character in question?
I believe that its the "Bonanza Bunny" short that was released early on, that has this scene.

This is one thing I often remember from my childhood, and over the years it has become a hazy memory at best.
I could be wrong on this, and I may have a few details mixed up, but I think this is correct.
Any help is appreciated on this matter.

Neither "Bonanza Bunny" or "Wet Hare" are on any of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection or Spotlight Collection DVD sets. This is probably because Robert McKimson is mostly considered a second-tier Looney Tunes director (although, he's a favorite of mine). Some of his cartoons are on the sets but they are not nearly as prevalent as Chuck Jones, Friz Freleng or Bob Clampett (the big three).

"Blaque Jacque" is McKimson's own interpretation of Yosemite Sam.

So basically, all these expensive releases of these collections, do not include anywhere near all of the cartoons then...?
(actually, I don't really know what they cost, but people say they are expensive)
Now I can almost understand the censoring, although I don't agree with it, but buying set after set, and not even getting all the shorts?
Rip-off if you ask me!

One day I might buy these, but I certainly will NEVER buy them until I know I can get them all.
What a shame.

So basically, all these expensive releases of these collections, do not include anywhere near all of the cartoons then...?

TZ DZ Fan

There are over 1000+ Looney Tunes shorts. That's a lot of shorts for a single set. I am fine with buying sets that contains 60 shorts. I don't always get every cartoon I want, but it is fun to see some I've never seen or have forgotten. From a Warner Bros cartoon history perspective, they are thoughtfully compiled.

I have the first six Golden Collection sets and they have each run me about $50 (compared to when I bought the TZ Definitive Editions as each season was released at about $80 a pop, they're cheap).

Plus, you've never seen Looney Tunes shorts look like this before. They are meticulously restored, they look great!

Here is Bugs again, in "The Hasty Hare".
This is another I remember from when I was a little tyke.

Unfortunately, many of these are yanked down in fairly short order, so you might want to check this one out soon if you have interest.
One can see by looking back over this thread, that many of the others posted have already left us. :(

In my odd travels on youtube, I came across this jewel earlier.

Its entitled "Have You Got Any Castles?"

Link

This is from I believe 1938 (wikipedia), but is interesting to me for a couple of reasons.
One, is this isn't one of the "banned" shorts, but yet its still chock-full of stereotypes.
Apparently many of the cuts still included much of those.

Also, when looking over the wiki entry, it appears as though this is still public domain???
Unless I am reading it wrong, it looks that way.
I would have thought that all of the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts were pretty much under strict lock and key, in an effort to try and make more money, but I could be wrong.

Oddly enough, this is one that I DID* catch in syndication back in the late 70's, as a child.
I still remember seeing bits and pieces of it, and parts stood out immediately upon rewatching it a few minutes ago.

Looney Tunes is getting the hi-def treatment! The following link shows a release in November this year of The Platinum Collection Vol. 1 in Blu-Ray. There's a regular version and a numbered limited edition set as well. I always loved Looney Tunes growing up but never went after the DVD sets (was busy getting other cartoons on DVD, or other Blu-rays). Now that this is coming out, I'm thinking I've got to make the purchase -- just seems too good to pass up. Thought I would provide the info here for any other fans.

Thanks for the heads up, Lazy! I pre-ordered the Limited Edition. I already own these cartoons on DVD, but I love the Blu-Ray format and even though this is a double-dip, like the Twilight Zone Blu-Rays, I am trying to support the format.

Never caught the reply, sorry Whit. Yeah, I agree with you; love the Blu-Ray format. Honestly, never thought I'd go that route simply because I had invested in DVDs, but getting a Blu-ray player as a gift was the best thing ever! Now any future purchases MUST be Blu-ray. It makes such a difference.

As for Bugs Bunny & co., I got the limited edition collector's set for Christmas. Haven't cracked it yet, but I'm looking forward to it soon. Have you watched any yet? If so, how does it look?

Actually, I cancelled my pre-order because I got pissed about the lack of unreleased material on it. I already have all of the Golden Collection sets and the suppliemental "Super Stars" sets and many of the cartoons are duplicates. I may pick them up on Blu-Ray but I'm waiting for the prices to come down.

What pisses me off about all these Golden collections of Looney Tunes, is as far as I know, there still isn't one collection where you can get ALL of the shorts.

Thats one major reason I don't have much interest in getting these..... :x

Hell I would just as soon watch the ones I remember online somewhere, and typically many can be found if you sniff around hard enough.

Not sure how low you want to go, but amazon.com is selling the Blu-Ray Platinum Collection Volume One (Ultimate Collector's Edition) for a nice price - only $34.99 (it's the Blu-Ray "deal of the week"). I got this particular set for Christmas and if I'm right it was probably between $45 and $50.

I ended up receiving the Blu-Ray Platnum collection as a gift. It's a nice set!

Ok so I opened up the set this morning, and it's a very cool set. Nice Bugs Bunny shot glass, a cool litho cel (I got "The Looney Tunes March'' - not sure if it's the same for all sets or each gets a different cel), and a magnet. Looney Tunes looks great in Blu-Ray!!

Update: I read that The Platinum Collection Vol. 2 will be released soon (in the next month or two) on both DVD and Blu-Ray.

I was hoping the Platinum Coll. Vol. 2 would be released in another limited edition set but not the case. Nevertheless, after much waiting, I received it as a Christmas gift. Great stuff on here; always fun watching some I remember from childhood and others I just don't know if I have seen. The restoration is also spectacular. It's great - I put it on Saturday and Sunday mornings, just like when I was a kid.

For TZ DZ - I just finished watching two Foghorn Leghorn shorts - "The Foghorn Leghorn" and "The High and The Flighty".
