OK - I received this as a Christmas present last year from some of my EA friends. It sat on my shelf for almost 6 months now - unopened and still in it's cellophane wrapping - gathering dust because I just had no time on my hands to play. Also, I simply forgot I even had the game. I finally said, "Screw This," and took yesterday off to just unwind from work and clean my desk of the collective clutter when I came across this again. I installed it on my computer, created a Steam account, and ran through the solo missions as the various characters to get some stress and tension release. Let me just say, this is damn fun!

Objective:

You can play as (1) of the (4) Survivors: Bill, Zoey, Louis, or Francis
Image

I, personally, haven't really noticed and real differences between the characters - positively or negatively. So I can't say for certain that one character is better then the other. Each can chose any weapon they want from the arsenal, so I guess it's just a matter of choice.

The nice thing about this game is you can run 1 of 4 missions {setup like movies ala George Romero.} This is built using the Valve -Counter-Strike/Half-Life - engine, so game play and physics are very realistic. You 4 are the survivors of the Zombie plague. You mission, is always the same, try to reach a rescue point by destroying as many zombies as you can to get there. You can use Guns, Hand2Hand Melee, Explosives, or Fire. You get Med Packs to restore your health and pain killers to give you temporary relief. You have several types of zombies - and some selective enhanced ones along the way.

Boomer: Annoying blubbers Zombies that spit bile on you - blinding you for 30 seconds and generating a swarm of nearby zombies. They explode when shot killing any nearby zombies in the process.
Image

Hunter: The stalking zombie that usually resides in close proximity to Boomer for obvious easy picking strategy. Can jump and pounce his prey from great distances - usually accompanied by growls and a howling screech.
Image

Smoker: Always announced by his prevailing cough and lingering shimmering green mist around him. He can use his tongue to strike out and grab his victims, dragging them back to himself and occasionally hordes of other zombies.

Image

Why do I bring these types of Zombies up? Because, on-line, you can also run as these zombies and attack survivors. Yep - you can play as the bad guys too.

There are achievements to unlock for both Survivors and Zombies, so the game never really gets stale. Certainly it may not be everyones cup of tea, zombies and all, but a lot of healthy violence is always good. :D

My rating: 9! Solid game with lots of replay-ability as a single gamer and tons of interaction on-line.

It's damn fun, SVB.

Do the off-line 1st to get the handg of the land and scenario before you jump on-line. Some people are heartless and pounce you if you're an obvious noob.

Sounds like me when I first started playing Call of Duty 5. I was getting destroyed like a noob should be. They also have this really cool bonus game called "NAZI ZOMBIES" similar to Left 4 Dead. You should check it out or read about it online. Ill try and get a link tomorrow.

Apart from the survival achievements, I have all but 2 of the original ones. I just can;'t seem to manage to survive the wait for the rescue vehicle without taking some damage and I can't seem to manage to go the whole game without taking some damage from a special infected. I've managed the rest :D

SVB, you need to add a / before the b at the end of your signature :)

I mentioned that to the goof in the chat earlier.

BTW- This game sounds interesting. I might look into picking it up.
(along with about 40 other items I need to get)

I know that feeling well. I usually get biled from behind from a damn boomer during the rescue stage and blows the whole process along the way.
Have you done the entire scenario only using pistols? It's rough but not impossible.

You may have to do a computer upgrade - it requires a Pentium 4 3Gig processor or dual core with a minimum of 1 Gig of Ram. I run on a 4 core AMD with 4 gig or Ram, and even I had to update my video drivers. Word for the wise.

Yeah, Akimbo Assassin was one of the first achievements I managed. As a former Counterstrike Source clan member, such things were common and good fun for me. Sneaking up behind someone and killing them instantly with a knife to the back of the head was hilarious (especially when the screen thunders 'Humiliation!' to tell everyone else playing of the deed).

I found that to avoid the bile, the best scenario to complete is 'Death Toll' since you have a lot of open area to spot the boomer coming - especially on the final stage.

NAZI ZOMBIES
Another zombie fueled rampage. This is a bonus game after beating Call of Duty 5.

Similar to Left 4 Dead? You decide....

Similar - but slow and lethargic in comparison to the Zombies in Left4Dead.

While I do agree that Left 4 Dead is by far the better game, the zombies actually increase as the levels go on in Nazi Zombies, by 15 they are running and streaking similar to the Remade Dawn of the dead zombies. It becomes impossible

I had the pleasure of playing this last night with a friend who owned a copy of the game. Its pretty fun. Reminds of me of the Dawn of the Dead remake. I did the Co-Op and playing for the first time it really hit me hard. I wasn't ready for the speed and ferociousness these zombies can be. I was swarmed more then once and I thought it was over for sure. Thankfully you have a team that is always ready to back you up. I was a little dissappointed that there is no aiming feature. I didn't get to try it out online either but hope to soon.

I told you - These aren't Romero's Zombies.

Were you on XBOX or Computer, SVB?

OK, just checking. I know on the PC version you can enable and disable the crosshairs. I don't know on the XBOX. Your buddy may have it turned off or it is not available for some reason.

I have purchased the game and have an account on XBOX 360 Live. If anybody else has an account and plays this game online fill me in because I am ready to take it to the next level on CO-OP. I had a blast playing on it last night with a few friends and meeting new people who enjoy killing zombies!

I love how they made the game so similar to zombie movies these days. Really awesome....

PC user - but I believe that the STEAM engine works for all platforms. I've played with XBOX people in the past.

Well after killing more then 16,000 of the damn things...I am pretty sure they are not zombies and more in line with the virus of 28 days later.

For instance...when you are down the infected begin to beat on you like your getting jumped into a spanish gang. There is no eating of the flesh or the brain.

28 days later in America should be a more suitable title. :yack:

Yep - more of mutated zombies when you get down to it, but zombies be zombies.

Anyone found any good custom maps yet? I've spotted some sweet ones in development but little in terms of completed campaigns.

Yep, first person and great fun. Grab the second one if you have to choose between the two because Valve are releasing the maps from the first game for the second game. :)

For anyone on Steam, my profile is:

Feel free to add me.

On a related note, I'm playing Dead Island right now. Quite enjoying it too :)

Yes - 1st person with 4 player co-op. You can get both versions plus the expansions for like $29.00 total on-line at valve/steam.
