this movie was abour 20x's better than i thought it woulda been.
casting was great. i didn't really care for the Nero character. i just thought he was weak and not a read bad a** like you'd expect in such a huge movie. but that's just me.

All I will say, is that I heard from different sources, that it was a great movie.
Even if you aren't a "Trek" fan, I hear the action is enough to make you happy.

If thats the case, I am glad a movie finally broke out of its "mold" to be a decent flick, regardless of what the old fans were expecting.

I watched it this weekend -- I loved it. It did "break the mold" a bit, in regards to a bit more fast-paced nature than the classic, but it works well. It's fun to be a fan of the original and catch little nods to the original show. I liked the casting choices -- they were pretty good. Loved seeing L. Nimoy as Spock Prime, cool concept.

8.5/10!

Bring back the Shat for the sequel.

Not sure how they'd do it without repeating the concept, but I'm down with getting Shat in the sequel.

My Mood: Happy
After reading the most recent posts on this thread (and after watching This Means War starring Chris Pine with his electric blue eyes) I got the urge to watch the DVD I have of Star Trek again tonight.

So I did.

Wow, my opinion of this movie has gone from "I hate it" to "I kinda like it" to "Okay . . . I guess this movie is pretty good."

Suddenly realizing that Chris Hemsworth (Thor) played Jim Kirk's father pumped up my enthusiasm for this movie. I just love it when good actors like Chris get to contribute to great movies. A prime example would be the way Chris Evans has been allowed to play Johnny Storm twice and Captain America twice.

Other examples would be the way Robert Downy Jr. has played Sherlock Holmes twice and Iron Man three times. Samuel L. Jackson has played Nick Fury even more often.

What do you guys think?

I'm glad John Cho didn't act gay. But disappointed that Mr. Spock did. :(
