John Carpenter's The Thing plus Full Metal Jacket and Bladerunner: The Final Cut will be running on Encore this month starting June 25. Thought you guys might want to check those out, since I know there are a lot of Thing and Bladerunner fans here. Anyone have a Bladerunner preference? Original, Director's Cut or Final Cut? Anyone plan on catching these on TV or watching them or seen them recently?

What do you mean, Full Metal Jacket, because it's not sci-fi? Yeah, I know what you mean, but what they're doing on Encore is honoring the 30th anniversaries of The Thing and Bladerunner and the 25th anniversary of Full Metal Jacket, that's why they put that together. Jacket is a good film IMO, Bladerunner and The Thing are all-time greats.

Is there any one particular version of Bladerunner that you guys prefer? Is there a decent DVD release of The Thing?

The recent releases of both movies are pretty great. The Thing has a tonne of features and documentaries. Blade Runner (Special Edition) has three versions in the boxed set.

Alright! I'm going to catch that Blade Runner: Final Cut.

I think I have seen about everything there is to see regarding "The Thing". My love for this movie is well-documented here.

I tried sitting through "Blade Runner" again. No change. It's obviously not for me.

Agree on this.

I think its good, and some of the visuals were stunning, and obviously ahead of its time.
But I do think its touted a little more highly than it should be.

Some of these films like this, 2001, and another I put into a similar vein for me is "A Clockwork Orange".
Its like, people say they love the stories etc, but parts are so vague , wild and "out there", it just doesn't do it for me.

Good, but not the "classic" many say it is.

This is one of a few that I think I would really get a kick out of the visuals, if I ever saw it on BluRay.

I love "2001". It's vague but it looks and sounds fantastic.

Some guys end up talking about Carpenter's The Thing even though they say they aren't going to. These guys love it.
