I've got to admit when I heard George Clooney and Sandra Bulluck would be starring in a "sci fi drama" in space..I had a good laugh. But the teaser makes it look pretty decent.
I think this film could go in either two directions. It could go the route of APOLLO 18 and be a total suckfest, or it could be similar to MOON.
The plot concerns the two leading stars who are astronaughts and get caught outside a space station during a spacewalk and no communication from earth.
They have a teaser trailer on youtube now. Lets wait and see

This has turned out to be a blockbuster. It's regarded very well critically and has also struck a popular chord with audiences - whereas most films lose about half their audience in their 2nd weekend, this one only reduced by about 20%. It's not quite Titanic or Avatar, but I think it will end up as one of the biggest box office hits of the 2013 year, maybe in the Top 5.

Sandra Bullock's career is certainly not slowing down. :sparkle:

Im surprised its doing so well....is this because its based on A-list stars being in it? I doubt the premise alone influenced the big box office take. I just like realistic space movies (Ive heard its not 100 percent acurate) so I caught on to this early on before release date. ...but its doing better then Moon and Apollo 18 combined.

Ill reccomend this to be put in TZ DZ Fans list of :sparkle: "The 5000 movies Ill never watch but should." :sparkle: tub.

I think it's a combination of things, which is the case with most of the biggest box office hits - like a perfect storm of events. There are the stars - Sandra Bullock in particular; she's probably the most bankable female actor now. There were the trailers - one in particular really hit a home run with potential viewers. It suggested a new kind of excitement, a new experience, especially on large IMAX screens. Similar rumors spread about this being the director's best work to date - but it probably still revolved around the visuals. The story - up in orbit, in outer space - interests sci-fi fans, sf action fans, rocket fans, NASA/space exploration fans. Then, the 2nd weekend reflects great word-of-mouth. Friends (and board members) are being told, 'hey, you gotta see this once on the big screen.'

Apollo 18 total lifetime gross: about $18 million; Moon: about $5 million
Gravity gross after 10 days: $122 million - yeah, I'd say it's doing better... :D

Moon still looks like a better movie to me.
