How come there are two of these threads??

Well since the other one is the active one, I'll use this one to post this:

Michael Vick sentenced to 23 months in prison.

They should put him in the "dumb jail".
This is the same "dumb jail" that OJ should be sent to.

They also shouldn't let either out until they show significant improvement in intelligence.

Hopefully his football career is finished.

Anybody stupid enough to piss away everything he had over dogfighting,(and gambling) might be just stupid enough to be a perfect candidate for a bullet.

Yeah. I wasn't much of a Vick fan, but I do remember about 6-7 years ago back in college, a guy I knew was all about Michael Vick and Virginia Tech - he was such an electric player in college. Now the poor bastard will have to watch his cornhole.

This guy has ruined his life--it's kind of nice to see a celebrity-type not get off with just a slap on the wrist for once! Screw 'em! If you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough.

he may have "ruined his life" as you said, but i still betcha that he will wind up in the WWE when he gets out of prison. the WWE kept using mike tyson after all his mess, so why not use tis idiot? i'm sure we haven't seen the last of this guy...

Yeah, I agree. He may have a "future" in the WWE, but until you told me that Mike Tyson also wrestled in the WWE, I had no idea. Not much of a future for Mr. Vick.

they used mike tyson at another time (didn't they ?)for something, but not actually wrestling.
a lot of folks criticized TNA for using that Pac man guy..but i thoguht it was smart busines. it got the TNA name out there, which was what they needed to get into the main stream media. and it worked. so i can see vick being used the same way one day.

Can he stay injury free is the all important question? If I were a betting man - I'd bet no.

The thing is, his style of play and running himself (much more often than most QBs), does lead to injury more than some of the others.

Injuries for someone like him can and will happen with regularity.

Will he repeat his ridiculous numbers from last season??? (not to mention off the charts fantasy numbers as well) Almost certainly he won't.

Will he have a good season???? If he stays healthy and plays most games, I think its fairly certain he will have a good season.
I think hes a top 10 QB in the NFL, most anytime he plays the full season.
I don't quite see him duplicating last season's numbers though.

QUICK EDIT - $100 million does guarantee something though...... You can bet your ass that the heads of the team and owner of the organization will try and reign him in just a little bit.
They won't want him running quite as often and risking himself , simply to protect their huge investment.

I don't think it's a 100 million guaranteed. I think only like 40 mil of it is. The rest is incentives and based on him playing like 6 years, which he almost certainly won't. I was also reading, that based on what he already owes, he won't really be making any of it (outside of 300k a year, I know boo hoo for him) for several years because of him owing like 19 million to creditors.

From USA Today - 9/2/2011

Michael Vick made 12 cents an hour working at a federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan. Now, those to whom he owes money under his court-approved bankruptcy have reason to welcome his new mega-contract as quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles.

In 2009, about a month after Vick was released following 18 months in prison on a dogfighting conviction, a federal judge in Virginia approved his Chapter 11 bankruptcy plan to repay about $20 million in debts. Vick had lost the 10-year, $130 million contract he signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2004.

This week, on the heels of his 2010 re-emergence as a Pro Bowl quarterback, Vick and the Eagles agreed to a six-year deal. The Associated Press reports it is worth $100 million with about $40 million guaranteed. Vick made about $1.6 million with Eagles in 2009 and about $5 million last season.

"I would say that this confirms that the creditors made the right decision by putting their faith in Mr. Vick rehabilitating his career and his reputation,'' says Norfolk, Va., attorney Ross Reeves, counsel for the Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the Vick bankruptcy.
Under terms of the bankruptcy, which runs through 2014 and required Vick to sell off multiple homes, vehicles and other assets, he agreed to pay "significant amounts of his future income" toward debts. The schedule is based on how much he earns each year — before taxes. It stipulates these paybacks to creditors:

• 10% of income up to $750,000

•25% of income over $750,000 and up to $2.5 million

•30% of income over $2.5 million and up to $10 million

•40% of income above $10 million

Vick's creditors include banks, the Internal Revenue Service, his bankruptcy attorneys and the Falcons (about $6.5 million in repayment of bonus monies). He also owes about $6 million to former agent Andrew Joel of Richmond, Va., who won a legal judgment against Vick after filing a suit alleging Vick reneged on a deal to have Joel represent him in endorsement deals coming out of Virginia Tech in 2001.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the TZ DZ brass tax..........

Who gives a f@%k what he makes, and who he owes. He doesn't owe me, so I don't give a shite either way.
But what I *DO* care about is fantasy football, and how he does, in regards to our league.
This year I don't have him on my squad, so even that isn't a major concern for me. Err, I hope he doesn't go off like a rocket in a week where I am playing against him though. :ROTF:

There is actually a good chance he starts some games, but make no mistake about it........Geno Smith will see the field this year.

I read a report some time back that they fully believe in Geno Smith, and Vick is likely just a "stop loss" in the event of Smith completely bombing or getting hurt.

In all honesty I think Vick will start some games, but he certainly won't start them all, and even if he did, (or was planned to) he would wind up getting hurt at some point.

Oh, he'll see the field all right...from his back! The Jets are terrible--the red-headed step-child of NJ/NY.
