It's quite simple. All you have to do is pick the winners for each playoff game and the person with the most wins after the Super Bowl is over is the winner. No point spreads, just straight up picks. In the event of a tie or a potential tie going into the Super Bowl, there will be a tiebreaking procedure for total points scored in the Super Bowl. I know that TZDZ, lazy, DrM and myself will all participate and if anyone else chooses to do so feel free to jump in! It's absolutely free to play, but if any of you guys want to play for a few bucks ($10-$20 per head - winner takes all) then that would be cool too. Each week I will post the matchups and all you have to do is list the names of the teams you are picking to win that week before noon on Saturday afternoon and you're in. Ready? Set? Go!

WILD CARD ROUND:

Atlanta Falcons (11-5) @ Arizona Cardinals (9-7) (Saturday, January 3rd @ 4:30 pm ET)

Who would have ever imagined that these two long-suffering franchises would both be in the playoffs, let alone the Cardinals playing host to a team that was nothing more than a pile of ash at this point last season.

The game will pair two of the NFL's most noteworthy quarterbacks of 2008. Arizona's Kurt Warner, 37, threw his way into MVP consideration (4,583 yards, 30 touchdowns) while Atlanta's Matt Ryan, 23, is a near shoe-in for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year (16 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and 3,440 yards).

Three of the NFC's four Pro Bowl receivers will also be on display. The Falcons' Roddy White came into his own catching passes from Ryan. Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin are one of the most prolific tandems of all time.

-

Indianapolis Colts (12-4) @ San Diego Chargers (8-8) (Saturday, January 3rd @ 8:00 pm ET)

Colts: After his ninth 4,000-yard passing season and likely winning his third league MVP honor, Manning gets another chance to show that he has what it takes to deliver in the postseason. He did it once, guiding the Colts to victory over Chicago in Super Bowl XLI and becoming the game's MVP, but that was with a stronger supporting cast. This year, Manning has been carrying a team that struggles to run the ball and is inconsistent on defense. ... Will this be Tony Dungy's final season? The Colts' coach has an exit plan, and another Super Bowl victory would be the perfect time to walk away. He might decide to call it quits regardless of when his team's season ends in the postseason.

Chargers: Perhaps being the most prolific passer in the league wasn't enough to get Philip Rivers into the Pro Bowl, but it was good enough to get him and the Chargers in the playoffs. You know he will be playing with a chip on his shoulder pad. ... In some circles, Norv Turner was thought to be in danger of losing his job. There is no denying that the Chargers were a disappointment. Many prognosticators had them easily winning the AFC West and finishing with one of the best records in the league. The fact they beat Denver in the regular-season finale to win the division with an 8-8 record suggests they might not belong in the postseason, but their offense has gotten red-hot at the perfect time. ... There was plenty of talk during the season that LaDainian Tomlinson has lost a step, but there are plenty of defenders in the league (including those who play for the Broncos) who would beg to differ. Of course, it remains to be seen what Tomlinson's status for the game will be after suffering what appeared to be a groin-muscle injury against Denver.

-

Baltimore Ravens (11-5) @ Miami Dolphins (11-5) (Sunday, January 4th @ 1:00 pm ET)

Ravens: They are one of three incredible turnaround stories found in the posteason. And, like the Dolphins and Falcons, they have a rookie coach: John Harbaugh. Harbaugh has received high marks for keeping his team focused on each game rather than being distracted by the bigger picture. But is he up to the task of leading a team to a road victory in the playoffs? ... Like the Falcons, the Ravens also have a rookie quarterback: Joe Flacco. Flacco has received high marks for showing incredible poise and a veteran-like sense of operating an offense that emphasizes the run. But is he up to the task of leading a team to a road win in the postseason? ... Will Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan be able to enhance his resume to fill one of the head-coaching openings that should open soon?

Dolphins: To go from 1-15 to an 11-5 division championship one year later is nothing short of miraculous. Chalk up another one for master rebuilder Bill Parcells, the Dolphins' executive vice president of football operations. And to make that 10-game improvement (which ties the 1999 Colts for the greatest in NFL history) with a rookie coach, Tony Sparano, makes it even harder to fathom. Are the postseason stakes going to be too much for Sparano to handle? ... Chad Pennington's career revival continues. He got sweet revenge by leading the Dolphins to victory against his former team, the Jets, to seal the AFC East crown. But Pennington would hardly be satisfied if Miami's season were to end a week later.

-

Philadelphia Eagles (9-6-1) @ Minnesota Vikings (10-6) (Sunday, January 4th @ 4:30 pm ET)

Eagles coach Andy Reid will be facing his former longtime assistant Brad Childress, who served as Reid's offensive coordinator for four seasons (2002-05). Both coaches faced scrutiny about their job security at different points this season but now appear to be in good shape.

Each team needed season-ending victories to get into the playoffs. Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been on a mission the past two months but will be facing the NFL's fourth-stingiest run defense. The key could be Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, who has played fairly well since regaining his starting job a month ago. The onus will be on both Jackson and McNabb to make plays in the passing game since Minnesota and Philadelphia boast two of the NFL's top run defenses.

This will be the Eagles' first game this season in a dome. Minnesota is 6-2 at home with the only two losses coming against dome teams, Atlanta and Indianapolis.

I think I'm gonna puss out on this one and just play for shits & giggles.

The winnings from the fantasy football league actually "got burned" already and paid for my money league. I will be down for fantasy baseball and next year's football though.

It was great because they are nothing more than media darlings with an inflated record. That rookie quarterback showed his true colors once there was some pressure on him. I will be stunned it they finish above .500 next season.

Let it be known at this point, that I would probably NOT BET any of these games.
Unless perhaps some of the lines change.
I might be tempted to actually bet the Cardinals, if the line goes up a bit though.

Well, I only wanted to participate if there was an overlay, and we had like 5 players.
I figured once Lazy didn't want to be included, then we weren't going to do it.
(all that aside- I WAS wanting to be counted in, and I would pick every week in the thread/competition)

I didn't necessarily spell it out, but thats what I meant.

If you want to hold me to this, its no big deal, as I will pay if I lose.
But even if I was far ahead of the pack I wouldn't have expected anything.

I certainly wouldn't have picked the Titans over the Ravens this time. That was more of a "heart bet" and not a head bet.

Either way, I don't care. Just say what you want now before we go any farther.

Well, I totally planned on paying whomever won if I had lost so I do expect to be paid if I win.

I've already lost a bet on this board and paid quite promptly so I expect nothing less from other people.

That being said, you are only down by one game right now so who knows what will happen?

The spread in the NFC Championship game went up half a point. It is now Philly -4.5 and the AFC spread remains the same. These games are just too close to call for me. I will push the deadline to get your picks in to Sunday at 12:00 pm ET.

LOL.

The reason I never liked these type of "pick'em" challenges for money, is precisely what happened to me.

When you get down 1-2 games, you are forced to make differing picks in an attempt to catch up.
But as a gambler, I am sure you know this, and have probably been in similar situations before.

Granted, I didn't have to go exactly the opposite you did this week, but if it worked out, then I would have been a lock going into the Superbowl. (as long as I picked the same way you did)

I have no problem taking part in more of these, but like I said before........
I would rather have a bit of an overlay, and get a few more participants.

On that note............
I wouldn't mind doing something for the upcoming golf season.
Let me come up with a few ideas, or maybe see what you can come up with.
Perhaps we can get whitsbrain to join in, as I don't know if there are any other people on this board that follow it closely enough to want to put up say, a $20 bill.

I have never really done "fantasy golf", it might be interesting.
