OK, everyones picks are in , except Creepers.

I will check back in today here, right around kickoff to see if he has entered his picks.
It would be a shame if he doesn't get any picks in, as he has as good a chance as any of us right around the top of the standings....

Good luck all, in this next-to-last week of the challenge!

NOTE- This is the last week of the contest. All final games will be played on Sunday the 1st.
We had perfect 5 for 5 pick weeks by the top five players left in the contest, so it really is anyone out of those players.
Pick carefully and good luck!
*IMPORTANT* - - In the event of a tie, which could very easily happen at this point, check back to this thread early in the week. Here I will point out the way I will break the tie if necessary.
(actually there are several ways, but I am pretty sure of the way I am going to go... and I might need one participant's help through PM/personal message)

If the Falcons win, then there will be a tie between Beware the Creeper and DrMoreau.
(because DrM's pick, the Jets lost to Miami)

The rest of us who were behind , do not have a chance at this point.........

OK, there is a tie between Beware the Creeper, and DrMoreau, at (I believe) a total of 69 correct picks each.

There are a variety of ways we can settle this, but the one thats the easiest is picking the total points for a specific game. (most of the other ways involve picking a multitude of games etc., so just one "total" pick will be simplest and fastest)

I have chosen the Saturday night game this week, which is the Saints vs. the Lions and starts at 8 p.m. eastern time.
This game should be a rather high scoring game.
There are many ways you can find an estimate or guess for the "over/under or total" including tons of gambling places online, or even Fox Sports "odds".
Regardless, the ones that participated in my challenge should have a fairly decent guess at something close to this figure of total points that may be scored.

OK, (Beware the Creeper and DrMoreau) send me a personal message/PM right here on the board, and just mention its concerning the challenge, and please give me your guess at how many points will be scored in the Lions/Saints game Saturday night.
The fairest way to take guesses, is for me to get them via PM, this way it doesn't give the second guess an unfair advantage of knowing what the other's guess is.

Please send me your guess/pick by 4 p.m. eastern Saturday to be eligible to win this challenge. The earlier the better and having both guesses to me by Friday night would be a help.
Trust me, the prize is worth winning and I will need the winners mailing address after the challenge is over, so I can send it to you.

Thanks all, and Good Luck to Creeper and DrM.

Creeper, please send me your guess in PM.

It has been edited out in the above post.(if that is in fact what you wanted to use as your number)
I will explain why I need it in PM when you send it to me.

If for some reason you cannot PM me, I will take the guess you entered above. (that has been edited out of your above post)

Thank you and good luck...

BUMP.... BUMP!

As of now, Beware the Creeper is the only person between him and DrMoreau that has sent me his pick for the game tonight at 8 p.m. eastern between the Lions and Saints.

DrMoreau needs to either PM me his pick, or since I already have Creepers he may post it here too, if he wants.

We spent many weeks on this challenge, and I would hate to see anyone win by default. :)

I would like it in by 4 eastern, but I will most likely be home for the game, so I will check back here somewhere before game time.

Good Luck Guys!!

OK, both guesses have been entered.
The guesses for Creeper and DrM are -

DrMoreau - 56
Beware the Creeper - 58

Whoever is closest to the total of both teams score in tonights Lions vs. Saints game wins the challenge.
As it turns out, I am glad both of you had close guesses.

I think there is a potential for a shootout though, and it wouldn't surprise me to see a total of somewhere in the neighborhood of 68+ by these two high powered offenses.
Seeing as the Lions haven't been to the playoffs in years, their defense may play just a bit above their heads, in an effort to stop Brees. That could be the case with both teams too though, so I guess you just never know. ;)

Good Luck guys!

OK, the final score is.........

Lions 28 - Saints 45 for a grand total of 73 points.
This means that the winner of my first NFL Pick'em Challenge is Beware the Creeper.
His guess of 58 was closer than DrMoreau's 56 , to the total score of 73.

Congrats Creeper, and send me a PM early in the week with a mailing address so I can send you your prize.

Thanks everyone for participating.

Dr. Moreau, I was thinking EXACTLY along the same lines as you. I figured that since so much was expected from the Saints this record breaking year they would be nervous. I also figured that since the Detroit Lions were in the playoffs for the first time since 1857, THEY would be nervous. So I saw that the over under was 59. I moved it over to 58. I HAD even contemplated going LOWER, but I remembered this is the National Flag Football League and figured it would be a shoot-out in the 4th quarter. Congratulations on a Great Season. Dr. Moreau, I was behind you the ENTIRE season except for the LAST Weekend when we finally tied.

Everyone I know is saying to bet on the G-Men.
But I don't particularly like betting against Brady and the bunch, on any specific occaision really........ so I won't be betting this Super Bowl, regardless of spread.

I will say it will be a higher scoring game than the 24-17 you predicted though Anthony.
It has shootout potential.
The Pats can score on anyone, but amazingly, anyone can score on them also, and their poor defense.
I only wonder how good the NYG defense will be this go around. (and which Eli Manning shows up........ you know, the one that throws for 400 yards, or the one that throws 4 interceptions)
Hell, for that matter, I may not even watch this year.
Other than a block pool I run most years, I don't have much interest once fantasy ends. ;)

I'm going to a comic book convention. Might just watch the game for the $3.5 million dollars per 30 second commercials, though. Just not really a compelling game. Just a repeat of Super Bowl XLII.

Ah, but that's the thing. Eli has limited mistakes at the end of the regular season and in the playoffs. The Giants are hitting a hot streak at the right time. Eli hasn't thrown more than maybe 1 pick per game and has gotten more accurate over the years. Plus they've been able to force turnovers. Should be a good game. It's gonna be all about the efectiveness of the Giants pass rush and how much they can run the ball. And they gotta protect Eli in the pocket.

Agreed.

BtC: Not a repeat of SB XLII, let's call it a sequel. However, I do want to see the ending repeated, though it doesn't have to be that heart-wrenching and dramatic.

Go G-men!!!

The Dark Horse wins The PtE League 2011 AND the Giants win the Super Bowl -- can't get any better.

Actually, the NY Rangers could win the Stanley Cup, the Knicks could win the NBA championship and the Yankees could win the World Series, so maybe it could get even better.

:yack: :P

Creeper needs to let us know what his prize was used for/what gift he bought!

If he picked up a DVD set or something, I'd like to know.

Last time I checked you couldn't use amazon gift cards towards prostitution activity. (err, maybe he has a special arrangement though :ROTF: )

I'll play, but I am hesitant to run the contest like I did last year.

I may or may not be able to check it Sunday mornings this coming year like before.

If someone would like to take the reigns this season, I will be happy to participate, just not sure I can do all the tracking of picks etc.
(I'd hate to not have this little competition again though, it was kinda fun)

You can set up a pick em league on yahoo, just like we have one for fantasy football. It can do all the tracking for us.

I'm already doing two with some folks on other boards I go to.
