Important lesson for any would-be #2's out there. Be careful who you miss with - especially if that person is #6. Fun episode as we watch the paranoia spread throughout the handlers all caused by #2 trying to get the better of #6.

A solid episode, with a great number 2 actually.

Could have been better, but not bad.

When number 2 says "you shouldn't have interfered number 6", you kinda knew it was gonna be a good one.

My question is.............why doesn't number 6 just hold his own and say "I am number 6, you need not mess with me". (after all it seems as thats why they are all there)

Above average 6 from me.

Man, it is a shame you aren't watching them in airing order, TZ DZ. What makes #2 work here best for me is Patrick Cargill was also in an earlier episode. For him to play #2 post initial meeting helps setup a good memory click for the observant. As it is now, when you see him in the other episode, neither his presence nor the story hold the same impact. Eh - just my opinion anyway.

I am watching them directly in the order that they are in the box set.

This might not be the airing order, but thats just what I decided to do, rather than research the airing order.

I have NOT written about all the episodes yet here though, only some of them here and there.

There is controversy regarding the order in which the episodes should be viewed.
Moreover, due to the casting practices of these programs at the time,
we cannot assume that Patrick Cargill was portraying the same character more than once.
No. 6 turning the tables on this sadistic bastard was lots of fun to see.
It's one of the few episodes in which escape was not a priority,
but rather retribution for Hilary Dwyer's character's death.

True enough, but if we review "Many Happy Returns," was Thorpe in on it or not? If he was, did he get that promotion to number 2? Hard call to make, but interesting to see him transform from questionable agent to #2 or vice versa depending on your pecking order. If it wasn't planned, it was a damn good casting call, especially for the observant.

This one was awesome! How the tables have turned -- #6 just "hammered" #2 into paranoia and insanity. Funny thing, and though it is probably seen in other episodes I noticed it more here, but the penny-farthing in #2's office is quite the irony. I read that, in this show, the penny-farthing represents 'slowing progress' and the canopy represents 'protection/security'. With #2 being such a high position and this particular #2 promoting vigilance and protection, I find it ironic that his own penny-farthing has no canopy. Perhaps this is also indicative of the #2 position throughout the series that there is no protection or security of being #2, as we see since #2 is ever-changing.

9!
