Episode: 3.2 - Certain Shadow on the Wall

Image

"The least permanent, the most fleeting of man's proof of existence - his shadow. It comes and goes with light - hours of the day, point of the sun, angle of the moon. It is a quickly daubed and imperfect outline of a certain object at a certain given moment. This painting is called, Certain Shadows on the Wall."

Original Air Date: December 30, 1970
Cast: Agnes Moorehead, Grayson Hall, Louis Hayward, Rachel Roberts
Writer: Rod Serling {Based on a story by Mary Eleanor Freeman}
Director: Jeff Corey

Emma Brigham may have passed away but her remaining family is shorty to find that some things never go away - even a shadow.

8. A tad slow paced, but excellent performances all around.

I was really hyped to see this one years ago when I found out about the cast, but this one really does nothing for me at all. I gave it a four.

Wow, the first time I heard of someone not liking this one. Interesting.

I remember seeing this one as a kid and the shadow of the woman on the wall scared the hell out of me. After rewatching it, the shadow is still eerie, but otherwise the story plods along. The nice thing is that innocent Rebecca becomes an integral part of the conclusion. Did she know more about how Anna died than we think she did?

My rating: 7 - Very Good

I liked so many episodes when I first saw them, but not all of those scared me, as opposed to unsettling me. This one definitely did both.

An 8 from me. A strong story makes up for the inability to effectively deliver the sinister shadow in 1970!

8. More comeuppance. They sure had a lot of bad people getting punished in the Night Gallery, didn't they?

3 Stars

Just plain boring, the ghost on wall did nothing.
Yes, Fine performances by the actors, and nice dark ending;yet, overall tedious to watch.

A lot of live action stories remind me of those supposedly bad Charlton horror comics (which evidently get picked on or just ignored by comics fans, even when people like Ditko are in the credits), and this is one of them. I almost expect "Winnie the Witch" to appear at the beginning and end instead of Rod Serling.
(Winnie being one of those hot horror comics hostesses - think Vampirella).

I think I got you, kind of like the Crypt Keeper. Yeah, this has that low budget, pseudo horror feel to it, good catch.

Creepy but dated even for the 1970s. This story definitely has that updated from the 1920s or earlier feel crowned with a comeuppance.
Moral Observed: "You can fool some of the people some of the time but never under estimate the younger sister."

Certain Shadow on the Wall = 7
