The Night Gallery was the Twilight Zone follow-up brain child of Rod Serling. Rather than tell merely tales of Science Fiction and Fantasy, Serling leaned toward the occult and macabre. Utilizing some of Horror's master writers, including H. P. Lovecraft, August Derleth, Franz Leiber, and compatriots from the Zone: Richard Matheson, Douglas Heyes, etc, Serling brought his vision to NBC/Universal in 1969. Released as Night Gallery on Saturday, November 8, 1969 as a movie of the week, containing 3 stories, it received mixed reviews yet favorable ratings. It didn't see it's return until December of 1970, where it ran for 6 weeks, every Wednesday night from 10 to 11 PM on NBC. Collectively, these are often referred to as the 1st season, wherein the original movie is considered the pilot.

The Second season was a full compliment of 22 hour long episodes. However, the Third Season had it's run time minimized down to a half-hour, it scheduled moved from Wednesday to Sunday Nights, and only 15 episodes. Even though Night Gallery was getting it's highest ratings, NBC killed the series despite the fact that the sponsors begged and pleaded with them not to. But, by this time, relations between Serling, Producer Jack Laird, & NBC were beyond the friendly.

However, we do have these 43 episodes of horror, macabre, dark fantasy, and the occasional humorous segue as provided for filler by producer Laird. Although there are well over 98 stories - each story was part of a collective episode. So to avoid any undue confusion, they will be listed here in as there respective episode/story number. IE: Episode 1.1 = episode 1 vignette 1, Episode 1.2 = episode 1 vignette 2, and so on.

A final note: As stated, many top name directors, actors & writers contributed to this series. Some familiar Twilight Zone, Outer Limit, Wild Wild West, and similar veined shows all made their way back to the wondrous mind of Rod Serling. The master himself wrote or adapted One-Third of the stories. Many misconceptions, negative rumors, and misinformation regarding this series still lingers today. I am sure that our members hill will be posting many informative articles regarding this show in their respective seasonal threads.

Did anyone else notice that the voice that introduced the nights guest stars sounded an awful like Mike Road of Jonny Quest fame?

Good ears, BtC. It does sound like Race Bannon doesn't it?

It could also be the original voice of Dr. Quest, John Stephenson "Mr. Slate from the Flintstones."

I've always been under the impression it was Hank Simms - The Quinn Martin announcer - who provided the voice/introduction work for "The Invaders", "The Fugitive", "Barnaby Jones", etc. Although I'm not positive. I'll have to do some research.

I know I am late to the game; sorry, yet, I recently bought all 3 seasons of the Night Gallery { in the year 2016}. Which I am very glad I did, even if it is late.

I am obviously a huge fan of Mr. Rod Serling, and the Twilight Zone, and his related productions, so logic dictates I should watch this series, the PTE crew here is the main reason I bought the seres, I see that the NG Forum here does have some activity. ( I did see a few episodes years ago).

Sadly, this show was broadcast at a very late hour in my mid-west locale, and I was too young to stay up to watch the show. I have a vague memory of seeing the opening scenes of the pictures being moved towards the audience view, when I was a young boy.

This show did not get its due, IMHO, and yes, I am aware of some of the issues between RS and Laird, but I still feel there are some gems here, and I plan to give some reviews soon of the episodes.

I have watched every episode of NG, and rewatched some of the gems. I personally think there are more good/ great
episodes than not. Sadly for me the last season just veered off course, imho.

I am still amazed how under rated this series is and was. I could call Night Gallery this :: Twilight Zone 2.0, the horror collection. ( sure there were some
sentimental episodes like Tim Riley's Bar, and some sci fi episodes too, yet I feel it was mostly horror, and fantasy).

These are on DVD ( not sure if on Blu ray , sorry).

Here at the PTE some of the NG episodes work for free.

I like the show, especially season 2, some of the episodes are Rod Serling gems. And then there are some episodes I struggle to watch again.

Watch some of the free episodes here, if you can, if you look thru the Night Gallery commentary here, you will see which are considered winners and losers.
