Chiangmai, Thailand: While Dr. Quest is researching a botanical medical cure for space travel sickness, Race and the boys explore the local jungle. At the large statue of Budah, Race is switched for one of Dr. Zin's henchman; a clever identical impostor. As Jonny and Hadji grow suspicious, the impostor Race makes plans to steal one of Quest's most deadly secret formulas.

This is a fun episode because Jonny and Hadji perform most of the sleuthing. Although Race is the center piece, the is almost an all Jonny and Hadji tale. Great local and as always, a sinister plot by Dr. Zin. Even Bandit has some competition in this tale with the appearance of a little monkey.

As PJ mentions in his fun fact, this is the series 1st appearance by Jade. Always hard to fool a woman, especially one that "knows" Race Bannon as well as Jade apparently does. :o

Fun Fact #2: Although this is the 9th episode of the series, it was actually the 1st episode produced.

8!

This one was a bit better than I originally expected.
The idea of a "cloned" Race Bannon sounds a bit weak, but works well here.

"Jade" literally appears from nowhere in the jungle, but adds an interesting angle in this one.
She adds a hint of sexuality, that surely was "cutting edge" at that time, especially in a mainstream cartoon such as this.

Another good jungle setting, King Cobras, monkeys, and some good Quest action yet again leads to a good 7 from me.

There are more convenient occurrences and character entrances than can be counted in "Double Danger". Race Bannon's double, created by Doctor Zin has captured Race and takes his place with Benton Quest and the boys. But Johnny and Hadji notice that Race is acting strangely. Then an old flame of Race's named Jane drops in out of nowhere to save the real Race. For an evil Genius, Doctor Zin sure is poor at hiring his henchmen. Jane, Race and the boys escape with little effort. Hadji uses his magic to make the henchman's bullets disappear from his gun. Johnny somehow gets the henchman's knife, which must have been difficult because the henchman was wearing what looked to be only an adult diaper for the entire run time. The animation is very sloppy in places, primarily in some of the facial expressions and lack of details. I had read that some of the artwork was rushed and outsourced for this episode. If so, it shows. There just a lack of detail in story and artwork. It's not typical of the show

My Rating: 2 - Poor

Nice points, Whit. Being that this was the 1st episode produced, I believe it was rushed for the producers and investors of the series as to what they were going to be getting for their bucks. Although a little sloppy art wise, I still find this a fun episode. Obviously Jade was to appear a time or 2 before this aired but doesn't look like that actually came about.
