The Curse of Anubis - now this is a cool episode. You get Egypt, ancient relics, lost temples, Vic Perrin as Dr. Ali Kareem, scorpions, poison vipers, and a vengeful mummy. Now this is just good wholesome family entertainment right here.

This was one of my favorites as a kid. Hadji performing his magic hide in 1 jar and appear in another trick - classic. The silent movie chase scenes, mini bike acrobatics, and did I mention the lurking mummy?!? This was also one of the rare episodes where Bandit was actually part of the key factors to the resolve.

Now, sure, same may argue this is stereotypical Arab/Egyptian propaganda but I'd disagree. This is just another bad guy Jonny crossed paths with. Even as a kid it didn't make me distrust Arabs any more than any other group of people the Quest Team encounters. One of the aspects I enjoyed most about these types of tales. No matter where in the world you go, the people aren't bad - but a person can be. Evil people come in all shapes, colors, and sizes.

There are so many things to enjoy in "The Curse of Anubis". For starters, the animation of the mummy is so well done. Honestly, it's comic book quality, this isn't cheesy Saturday morning animation. There are a couple of spooky shots of the mummy in the desert that are quite menacing. There's another chase, in fact it's a lengthy one with Jonny and Hadji on a mini-bike. Race kicks ass here too when he lays waste to a scorpion with a bull whip. And as DrM said, this one features the voice talent of Vic F'ing Perrin.

My rating: 9 - Excellent

Agreed. One of my favorites is when the mummy is atop a sand dune ridge with a glowing full moon behind him.

The above image is such a nice shot that really helps define the impact of the episode. So much so, I asked DrM to make that into a desktop for us here at PtE with some minor changes to the logo size and added episode title. Members can download the wallpaper from the post above.
