What I enjoyed most was the shades of X-Files yet to come. Chris Carter may have been influenced by this episode with its government cover-up and secrecy - right down to giving Kolchak a "forget this" drug.

Mr. RING, however, was rather silly. A more humanoid version of Uncle Simon's robot that didn't get a full chance to build his data base. Nice effect of the dual masks, one to replicate a human appearance and one with circuitry. It made Mr RING's head a little too large, but hey, small price for the effect.

6!

I really liked "Mr. R.I.N.G.". There are a couple of great scenes with the robot on a rampage against the cops and with Kolchak questioning the drunken widow of a murdered computer genius.

Kolchak actually wins a couple of arguments with boss Tony, which is not exactly par for the course. He's smarter and more tenacious as well.

The conspiracy theory ending is probably perfect for the episode. The robot design with only the circuit board faceplate gives it a very different look and hiding its face with a mask of putty was a truly inspired and freaky idea.

My Rating: 8 - Very Good
