Alright! A mini TZ Reunion Episode here. Keenan Wynn, Richard Kiel, Ned Glass, Randy Boone, & Virginia Gregg! Of course we also had, Simon Oakland to round out our repeat cast. On top of this excellent showing - it's a damn good story too. One of the Kolchak cream of the crop.

Here we actually have a mystery worthy of the original movie and showing Kolchak in a more investigative hard line reporter than some other episodes. The banter between Tony & Carl is spot on. The very little screen time everyone gets with McGavin in this episode makes the acting bar rise higher with all these veterans. Well, Richard Kiel only had to look big, bad, and imposing - but he did it with gusto. This is another David Chase episode, writer of 8 episodes and story consultant for the entire series. Most of you may know him more from the little New Jersey based show he created and wrote, The Sopranos. You can certainly see he chops all over the dialog and interaction. Damn imaginative for the early seventies. Dream research, Astral Projection, and the creature from Bogey Swamp all mixed together.

In the Pantheon of "5 MUST SEE KOLCHAK," this episode should most certainly be included in everyone's list.

9!

Back-to-back Richard Kiel episodes! Yes!! Actually, I have to admit the moss monster is pretty creepy, mostly in this episode's early moments. There are some effective shots of "Mossy" lurking in the shadows that gave me a chill or two while I was watching this late one night. As for the story, well, its a more interesting premise than most of the Night Stalker episodes and Keenan Wynn as the fiery Captain Siska and Severn Darden as the annoyed Dr. Pollack really make this one a winner.

My Rating: 8 - Very Good
