I have just been informed through email that both Arlene Martel and Ed Nelson have died, possibly on the same day, 2 days ago.

I will try and dig up what I can online, and post shortly.

Ed Nelson, a prolific actor who became a familiar face to American television audiences over 40 years, notably as a star of the prime-time soap opera “Peyton Place,” died on Saturday in Greensboro, N.C. He was 85

It mentions he was recently in hospice, but mentions no cause of death.

Star Trek Actress Arlene Martel Dies at 78

Full story here -- http://www.treknews.net/2014/08/12/arle ... dead-dies/

Arlene Martel, who Star Trek fans will remember for playing Spock’s Vulcan bride, T’Pring in “Amok Time,” died on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. She was 78.

Martel’s friend Marc Cushman, author of These Are The Voyages, confirmed the news via the book’s Facebook page. The post notes that Martel recently suffered a heart attack.

Her final public appearance had been with Cushman in Santa Monica, California, on June 28th to promote the book.

In addition to Star Trek, Martel is also known for appearances on Hogan’s Heroes, Bewitched, The Wild, Wild West, Battlestar Galactica (1978) and Gunsmoke.

Our members here will of course remember her from her Twilight Zone appearances.

I just read about her on a COLUMBO website. (She played a one-scene character in the episode A FRIEND IN DEED, and a more important - though also comical - character in the episode THE GREEHOUSE JUNGLE, and she was wonderful in both.) I've always been very attached to her, due to those two roles, Consuela Biros, an so many others.

The same with Ed Nelson. I don't know him well from all of his best-known roles - like PEYTON PLACE, which I've always known very haphazardly - but I've always been very fond of him.

Wow tough to grasp. So many deaths in the last few days. Good night Ms. Martel and Mr. Nelson.

RIP Arlene and Ed.
Arlene should have had honorable mention for both TZ and TOL.
Ed did 4 Episodes of Thriller, TZ and TOL as well.

It's a shame there passing may fly under the Radar with both Robin and Lauren's passing. Though not as famous they were hardly any less important.

Just a sad month all around so far.

They were both excellent actors. Arlene should've had a bigger and better career, especially as she got older. I really don't know why she didn't. But, and I can share this now that she is gone, she couldn't find an agent to represent her for many years and it was very hard for her to find work. Again, I don't know why. She did have an agent in the last few years of her life, finally, and she had some part in pilots (which never got picked up as series) and low-budget straight-to-video films. New York-trained, and a member of the Actors Studio, she definitely had a lot of ability. And, she bears the distinction of being one of James Dean's few friends. Arlene told me a lot of showbiz stories over the 2 years that I knew her. They were all very interesting. For some reason, she thought that her episodes were the only ones people remembered from TZ...I won't comment on that though. One thing she did tell me, one of the last times I saw her (in about 2004) was, "Whenever I do get up to Heaven, Rod Serling and I are going to sit down and have a nice...long...talk." I liked hearing that!

Mr. Nelson, I never knew. But he was nice. He sent me a copy of his autobiography - a very thick book - free of charge, about 6 years ago. Interestingly, both he and Arlene were scheduled to attend the 2006 TZ Con (which you and
I were at, TZDZFan). But neither one showed. Ed was a fine actor. I enjoyed his performances on many TV series - he did a couple good episodes of "Thriller" - one of them had Patricia Barry in it and he played a psychopathic killer.
I applaud Ed for finishing his bachelor's degree in 1999 at the age of 71. At least he believed in finishing things he started.
