:wtf: Gary Ross Dahl who invented the Pet Rock fad in the mid 1970's is dead at age 78. He has said he estimates that he sold about 1.5 million "Pets" for about $3.95 and became a millionaire. I remember when this fad came out and marvelled at it's stupidity but I guess he gets to laugh last. RIP Mr. Dahl

I'm just old enough to remember hearing about silly things such as this.

Like it or not, the saying "pet rock" found its way into our language, and this guy was smart enough to capitalize on his idea.

The pet rock fad was over when I was just getting old enough to know what was going on, but by then that guy had already made his money.
I personally never remember seeing those (especially in that little box) but many people would just pick one up from outside somewhere, and boom~! they had a pet rock of their own.

Unique little piece of Americana.

screw that. im working on an idea that could potentially make millions right now based loosely on Mr Dahls idea. I dont mind letting you all here at PtE in on the secret since its still in the developmental stage. This could be the future of collectibles....

The problem with SVB's proposed "stick", is that certain substances are NOT legal in every state.
