 Grace Lee Whitney, who only appeared on 8 Star Trek TOS episodes and a failed pilot that was on the Outer Limits, has died at age 85. I'm surprised no one has said anything yet. :o

I noticed this a couple days ago.

Its well documented........the dislike I had for Whitney. We had a bit of a "disagreement" when I sent her a TTM request to sign some Outer Limits pictures of mine.
But it has come out that I may have been wrong about her character, and had been for some time.
The rumors were she was a bit of a drunk, but apparently that was many years ago.

Read a few of the articles about her.
In the last 10-15 years she spent a lot of time doing speeches, and visiting hospitals and shelters, all in an effort to help and encourage others to give up alcohol.
Her son has come forward and said "she wanted to be remembered more for overcoming her addiction, and helping others battle, more so than her Star Trek character."

Even though I still don't necessarily like how she handled my request, I can say I was wrong about her character, and how she was as a person.

Since I'm a pretty casual "trekkie" instead of a GREAT one, to me she's just as much Carla in CONTROLLED EXPERIMENT.

And of course Carla considered herself the devoted enemy of "that two-bit floozy Betty Lou," so all joking aside, that's another connection I have.

In the mid 1960s I stayed at Harlan Ellison's house for almost a year and a quarter. Mary Ann (her real name) and harlan were having a beautiful relationship at the time, so I got to know her quite well. Since I was under age (15) she "baby-sat" me and helped this 'outsider' adjust to LaLaLand's ways. I will miss her.
